Dr. Charles Pinto is Professor Emeritus (Retd) of Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, Topiwala National Medical College, and the B.Y.L. Nair Hospital. He is Director Research and Academics, and Consulting Psychiatrist at Holy Family Hospital.
In addition to being Principal Investigator in Drug Trials in India, he has conducted Studies in Childhood Psychosis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Borderline Personality Disorder and Dementia on which he has national and international publications.
Dr. Pinto’s main work has been in Geriatric Psychiatry especially in Dementia. He was the recipient of the Best Poster Prize at the International conference on Alzheimer’s disease, Dr L P Shah Award, Bombay Psychiatric Society Silver Jubilee award, Dr Anil Shah Award and The NIH Grant for Research in Brain Disorders for the collaborative project Cognitive Loss in Ageing in Mumbai with Mt Sinai Hospital New York for 2004-2010. He is also the recipient of the Prof Vaidyalingam Oration (2007) and Dr SM Lulla Oration (2008) and Dr P.S. Bhaskar Kumar Memorial Oration (2012). His current area of work is BPSD in Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment
Dr. Pinto obtained his MBBS and MD degree from Topiwala National Medical College of the Mumbai University and ranked first in both exams. He qualified for his DPM from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Mumbai and is currently a Life Fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society and Member of International Psycho geriatric Association and World Psychiatric Association.
