This department offers a series of advanced diagnostic tests that help a physician, usually a neurologist, make as comprehensive a clinical evaluation of various neurological and related disorders. Our hospital uses the latest technology available to conduct these tests, which are administered by highly trained technicians.

The human body is like a closed-circuit, wired by a super-complex nervous system. The nervous system may be broken down into the Central Nervous System (CNS), which broadly comprises the brain and spinal cord, and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) that is made up of the labyrinth of nerves that runs through your muscles, tissues and organs across your entire body.

The brain and spinal cord are like a central switchboard and together control your body and its senses. The entire nervous system works on electrical current.

Modern science and technology now allows us to detect and measure the slightest electrical activity in the nervous system, to check for abnormalities in the functioning of the nervous system.

These abnormalities manifest themselves in various neurological conditions that involve the nerves and muscles. This, in turn, causes abnormal pain sensations, unexplained muscle weakness or nerve and muscle deterioration, among other things. The pattern of electrical impulses and its analysis suggests whether abnormalities are present.

Tests Available
1. Electroencephalography (EEG)
2. Video EEG: 2 hrs / 4 hrs

4. Somato-Sensory Evoked Potential (SSEP)
5. Visual Evoked Response (VER)

Do’s And Don’ts
Since the diagnostic tests performed by this department require the use of electrodes on the scalp and skin, they are sensitive to certain conditions. Hence, patients are advised to follow certain guidelines.

*Your hair must be free of oil; kindly shampoo and wash your hair before you undergo the test. Also, avoid using skin moisturisers. These chemicals may interfere with the electrical signals and therefore the accuracy of the test results.
* There are no restrictions on meals before or after the tests
* There are no restrictions on any medication taken by patients
* Individuals with pacemakers or other devices / implants that use or are sensitive to electrical signals must inform the examiner of the same.
