Most of us take the food we eat for granted but only few of us are consciously aware that our diet and dietary habits play a critical role in determining our health and overall well-being.

Like medicine, diet is also a crucial component of the healing process. It plays a key role in the treatment and management of all disease conditions, especially certain ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac, renal and gastrointestinal disease.

Considering its significance in healing, the hospital’s Department of Dietetics & Nutrition makes a systematic effort to provide a quality diet to in-patients and diet consultation to out-patients. To achieve these objectives, the department functions under the supervision of highly qualified and professional dieticians.

In-Patient Services
Our department is intimated of every new admission. Every in-patient receives a visit from one of our dieticians, who performs a complete and comprehensive nutritional assessment of the patient soon after admission. Each patient also receives nutritional advice. A diet plan is implemented through the meals provided as part of the hospital’s services.

Out-Patient Services
Our department has an active OPD consultation schedule and offers its professional services to an average 120 out-patients a month.

Out-patients are either referred by the hospital’s consulting doctors or Walk-In patients seeking nutritional advice. Walk-In patients may be referred either by external doctors/their own treating physicians or individuals seeking dietary advice at their own discretion.

OPD Registration
OPD patients and Walk-In patients do not have to register at the OPD Registration Desk and may directly approach the Department of Dietetics & Nutrition to register for payment . Consultation is strictly by appointment, which may be taken either by visiting us or over the phone.

Our Services
- Diet consultation on any type of illness
- Comprehensive nutritional assessment
- Nutritional and dietary advice and guidelines according to individual requirements
- Training for participants of various hospital programmes

Other Programmes
Since diet plays a pivotal role in health and healing, the Department of Dietetics & Nutrition often collaborates with other departments of the hospital in the treatment of patients and also while spreading awareness on the importance of nutrition to the community at large.

1. Post-Natal Advice : Advice to mothers on breast-feeding and weaning. This is usually done post-delivery for groups of mothers.

2. Paediatric Patients : Patients in this age group are usually referred by the Department of Paediatrics either through its OPD consultation or young patients admitted to the hospital. As a matter of course, we offer: nutritional assessment, advice and education with the help of instructional aides and material.

3. Health Check-Ups : The department also plays a crucial role in health check-up plans such as diabetes management, cardiac evaluation and child health.
