Safe Blood
To ensure high-quality, safe blood and blood components, our Blood Bank follows standard techniques and strict quality control at every stage, that is, from the moment a donor walks into our Blood Bank till the product is transfused to a patient. These norms, protocols and procedures are adhered to as defined in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

* We screen every donor thoroughly prior to blood donation. This includes a thorough history taking of donors, medical examination and haemoglobin estimation. This not only ensures safety and quality but also helps us exclude professional donors if any.

* After a thorough medical examination of the donor, the donor’s arm is cleaned as per standard protocols so that bacteria from the skin do not enter the blood unit and contaminate it.

* Our staff is trained to make blood donation for every donor a pleasant experience, thereby encouraging a donor to return to the Blood Bank.

* Every unit is given a Unique Identification Number and every product prepared from that unit can be traced back to its source.

* All records with traceability are maintained in our Blood Bank for a minimum five years.

* Blood is separated into various components and stored at respective temperatures within six hours of collection.

* Every unit of blood is tested for HIV antibodies, Hepatitis B (HBsAg), Hepatitis C antibodies, VDRL (venereal disease), malarial parasites and irregular antibodies.

* We have the requisite facilities to separately store untested quarantined units and tested available units.

* Our Blood Bank enjoys uninterrupted power supply so that all components are stored at the required temperatures without deterioration.

* Quality monitoring of all components and reagents strictly as per the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.

* We follow a haemovigilance system for monitoring, investigating and reporting of adverse transfusion events.
