Because You Can
Despite mind-boggling advances in medical science, there is still no substitute for human blood. That is why blood donation is so important.

River of Life
It courses through your veins and sustains life itself. It feeds and nourishes your body, collects and drains wastes, breathes oxygen into every living cell and carries a large portion of your immune system. And these are only some of the reasons blood is a basic and vital component of life.

By donating blood, you could make the difference between life and death.

Bitter Truth
Yet the bitter truth is that every few minutes, a life ebbs for want of this precious life-giving fluid. There are lives in dire need of blood transfusion but unable to receive what is yours for free.
- Every year, our country requires 40 million units of blood
- But only a meager 4 million units of blood are available
- Only 3 per cent of people who could give blood actually do so

So if you’re wondering why you should donate blood, the answer is: Because You Can.

Need For Blood
The need for blood is constantly rising. Visit an Emergency Room and you’ll see why. Emergency transfusions are required for victims of accidents and other trauma such as burns. These patients cannot wait. Patients with rare blood groups are hardest hit.

If you know someone undergoing surgery, you’ll be familiar with the runaround relatives get to organise blood for them. That’s because blood is always in short supply. Yet thousands of units are required daily, for patients of organ transplant, cardiovascular surgery, dialysis, cancer surgery and other surgical procedures.

And that’s not all. Some people are born with a need for regular transfusions. They’re always walking a tightrope. These include patients of anaemia, autoimmune diseases involving the destruction of red blood cells, thalassemia, haemophilia and leukemia.

With every unit of blood you donate, you pass on a gift you were given free.

It’s Easy!
The amazing part is, it takes only 45 minutes to save a life. Walk into our Blood Bank (Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm) and give someone a second chance at life – simply BECAUSE YOU CAN.
