Neonatology
Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai, has a long and fine tradition in caring for infants. Most of these cases are emergency or critical cases, which are expertly handled by our senior neonatologists and paediatric surgeons, who make for a superior success rate in Neonatology in Mumbai.

Advanced Procedures
Our specialists skilfully handle a variety of cases and are abreast of the latest trends in the treatment of neonates. Some of these are :

Double Volume Exchange Transfusion : More than 88 per cent of the baby’s blood is replaced by fresh blood in cases of severe septicaemia and jaundice.

Ventilators : We have excellent ventilators, which lend respiratory and cardiac support. These are used while treating extremely low birth-weight babies to babies with other paediatric conditions such as meconium aspiration syndrome.

Surfactant Replacement Therapy (SRP) : Extremely premature babies (born before 30 to 32 weeks) usually suffer respiratory distress due to lung immaturity due to a deficiency of natural surfactant.

Neonatal Care Facilities
Following are the facilities and services we offer in this specialty:
Section I : Where we care for our in-borns (babies delivered at our hospital).
Section II : Where we care for babies born in other hospitals.
Septic Section : Where we care for infected babies.
Breastfeeding Section : Here, new mothers are taught to breastfeed their babies. This is supervised by trained staff and doctors. Babies who are able to tolerate breast-feeding are shifted to the Post-Natal Care Ward (PNC), where consultants visit twice a day and RMOs twice or thrice a day, as required.

Immunisation : As soon as babies are shifted out of the PNC Ward or NICU, their mothers receive advice on immunisation according to IAP (Indian Academy of Paediatrics) criteria. We conduct immunisation daily on an OPD basis. Vaccines are administered in the Treatment Room on the ground floor by a nurse or an RMO.

Well Baby Clinic : This clinic is conducted daily by our consultants. Growth and development assessment is performed by checking head and chest circumference, length and weight of the baby, etc. We then chart the details on an IAP Growth Chart so that we can track the baby’s development.
