The Bandra Holy Family Medical Research Society comprises four committees which together administer the Research Centre, pilot scientific research and guides the programmes it undertakes. This ensures quality studies in keeping with scientific ethics.

1. Executive Committee
Headed by the Executive Director, the Executive Committee includes medical, research and financial directors with members from the trustees of the Research Society and doctors. The committee is overall in charge of the Research Centre and its activities and provides guidelines and approval for these activities.

2. Scientific Committee
This committee has been constituted to analyse the usefulness, methodology and scientific validity of clinical studies and research proposals that may be put forward by members, including sponsored studies and drug trials, to the Research Society. All projects / proposals received must obtain the approval of the Scientific Committee prior to the approval of the Ethics Committee. 12 projects were approved in 2016 - 2017 including thesis, clinical drug trials and community research.

3. Institutional Ethics Committee
The Independent Ethics Committee gives the final seal of approval to all research projects proposed to the Research Society. Scheduled to meet on the first or second Wednesday of every month, it scrutinises research projects that include DNB theses, clinical and community research, clinical drug trials and basic research. Forms for submission of approval by the IEC are available in the Research Centre’s office. It approved 14 projects in 2016 - 2017. The IEC has been granted re-registration Approval by the DCGI in April 2016 for a period of three years.

The IEC was commended by NABH for documentation being comprehensive and up-to-date.

The Ethics Sub-Committee takes up issues on non research ethical issues of personnel, therapy and hospital procedures as per the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) requirements.

Data Monitoring Committee for research studies progress in Hospital and Adverse Events and Serious Adverse Events of drug trials.

4. Research Advisory Committee
This committee has been formed with senior management and consultant doctors from the Holy Family Hospital, Mumbai, and renowned research scientists from other medical and research institutes in Mumbai.
It holds regular meetings and provides the thrust, objectives and guidelines to be implemented by the Research Society in its endeavor to undertake quality research programmes and studies and meet the standards required to maintain this hospital’s reputation as a front-runner in research in Mumbai.

DNB Thesis

DNB Theses of post-graduate students of the hospital are also evaluated by the Scientific and Ethics Committee.
